Not sure if it was the famous "maternity salad" from Caioti,
the pregnancy massage, or if the little guy was just ready to come out on his own but it was game time when we got to the hospital on Sunday, November 4. Fun Fact - the hash tag for The Walking Dead episode that Sunday was #LoriInLabor.
We were admitted around noon and learned that my bag of waters was slightly leaking - the midwife said that we would need to stay at the hospital and start the pitocin. (Good thing we installed the car seat and brought our hospital bags with us!) Once they started the pitocin, I was only able to eat popcicles and ice chips - it was fun at first but then I really wanted real food.
Here's a picture of me at around 2 pm with the first of five popcicles!
My bag of waters completely broke at 4 am the next day. They checked and said that I was only at 2 cm and it would be another 12 - 24 hours. Luckily, I didn't start feeling contractions until around 5 am. I really wanted to try to have a natural birth but the pain peaked at 6:30 am and I didn't think that I could handle another 24 hours and push. The anesthesiologist came in at 7:30 am with the epidural and they tried to put the catheter in at 8 am. The nurse said there was a lot of resistance and the catheter wouldn't go in - to our surprise, we learned that he was ready to come out and I was fully dilated!
Pitocin and the epidural were not part of my birth plan but everything worked out and I was happy to know that even though I got the epidural, I didn't really need it. I was able to manage the pain with the help of an amazing coach. My amazing husband, Jason really helped me with the breathing techniques we learned in our prepared childbirth class and gave me lots of hand massages which is what got me through the contractions.
I started pushing around 10 am and a little over an hour later, Baby Cody arrived.
Daddy cutting the umbilical cord
The little guy managed to make a knot with the umbilical cord!
Welcome Baby Cody!
He was alert and awake for the first three hours.
He even held daddy's hand while they measured and weighed him.
Baby Cody is such a lucky little guy to have such great family and friends come visit him!

Day 3: Going home but first getting his footprint on his hospital certificate

Thanks everyone for your love and warm wishes!
We are so blessed to have such great family and friends.
